The most useful self-publishing app may be the one that helps you finish a clean manuscript before you think about distribution. Drafting, revision, continuity, and a dependable handoff are the foundation for every publishing route.
WolfeWriter supports that pre-publication part of the process. It is a native macOS fiction workspace where the manuscript stays central and the surrounding book context stays local to the project.
What a self-publishing app should support
Before a book is uploaded to a retailer or sent to a formatter, authors need a stable place to:
- Draft and revise chapters without losing the current book context.
- Track characters, places, rules, dates, and open threads in Story Memory.
- Review continuity and scene changes before accepting them.
- Export a manuscript in a practical handoff format such as Markdown or plain text.
WolfeWriter’s AI help is proposal-based. It can assist with drafting, rewriting, critique, and continuity checks, but generated text is not manuscript text until the writer reviews and accepts it.
Know the boundary
WolfeWriter is not a retailer dashboard, ebook formatter, ISBN service, or one-click distribution platform. It helps prepare the work; publication metadata, final formatting, upload, pricing, and retailer submission still belong in the publishing workflow you choose.
If your priority is the writing phase, compare the novel writing app guide and creative writing app guide. For product workflows, see the WolfeWriter user guide.
WolfeWriter requires macOS 26 or later and is available as a free download on the Mac App Store.
